The Koch Kellan Scholarship is awarded annually by Paragon Gives, a Paragon BioTeck, Inc. initiative, to support the burgeoning career of a talented medical student fully committed to ophthalmology.

Doctors Paul S. Koch and Robert E. Kellan, for whom the scholarship is named, represent the pinnacle of their field. Stellar candidates easily set themselves apart through their unwavering commitment to the field and their potential to match these industry leaders in terms of both depth and innovation.

Those for whom ophthalmology is truly a calling; those for whom it would be impossible to pursue any other specialty; and those who are able to convey this personal connection in a captivating matter—these are the students whom the Koch Kellan Scholarship is intended to support.

Named in honor of distinguished ophthalmologists Paul S. Koch and Robert E. Kellan, the Koch Kellan Scholarship is awarded annually by Paragon Gives, a Paragon BioTeck, Inc. initiative, to a current medical (MD) student committed to pursuing a clinical, teaching, and/or research career in ophthalmology.

Open to students currently enrolled in their third year of graduate medical (MD) schools across the United States, the Scholarship affirms the commitment of Paragon BioTeck to elevating the standard of eye care by driving innovations to address unmet and underserved medical needs and improve the quality of lives around the world.

Once selected, the Koch Kellan Scholar is invited to attend a National industry event in the Spring. For the 2017 award cycle, the recipient will be formally presented at the 2017 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting in Los Angeles, CA, from May 5-9. Attendees of the award ceremony will include the Paragon BioTeck Advisory Board, Scholarship Review Committee, friends of Paragon BioTeck and industry colleagues.

“At Paragon BioTeck, Inc., we strive to provide innovative, therapeutic solutions for optimal eye health, but also to recognize those who have achieved similar goals. When I embarked on my career in the ophthalmic industry years ago, I became captivated with the substantive work of ophthalmologists Paul S. Koch, MD and Robert E. Kellan, MD. Both doctors have achieved incredible success as cataract and implant surgeons; their respective tenures in the ophthalmic industry have been marked by numerous innovations in surgical techniques and technologies. During the time I have known these gentlemen, I have had the opportunity to see how their pursuits have influenced and advanced the ophthalmic profession, and moreover, elevated patient care. I invite you to get a sense of why they are two of the most prolific and distinguished ophthalmologists in the field.”
